This is an embanked rectangle measuring about 47 by 20 metres with an entrance in the SW near the stile. The inside of the “henge” is lined with 49 standing stones mostly up to about 1.5m in height but a couple reach 2m. The centre is a damp area with a couple of pools and it seems this could fill up in wet weather. It is not certain what this monument is but judging by the effort taken to build it and the proximity of several circles it must have been important.

Various suggestions as to it’s origins have been made. These vary from it being a Bronze Age ceremonial monument relating to the nearby circles, some form of Neolithic mortuary enclosure to a prehistoric livestock corral.
