Glenquicken
Stone Circle
NX 509 582  Kirkcudbrightshire

To reach this site take the A75 to Creetown and turn right on the Old Military Road for 2.5 miles. This is not quite as easy as it seems so follow the signs for the Gem Museum (seems closed in winter) and just before you reach it take the right turn and head uphill. When you reach a junction with a left turn sign to Glenquicken, ignore this and go straight on and drive to the forest. When you come out of the trees by a bridge there is space to park beside it on the right. The circle is about 300m to the right of the road.

If you walk up the lane about 100m you will find a way to the circle.

The weather was pretty poor when we were here but it is a very attractive circle, spoilt only by the barbed wire fence right up on the southern arc.

The ellipse of 28/29 closely set low boulders is almost complete with a small gap to the SW. The tallest stones are to the SSE and reach almost 1m and the ellipse is approximately 16x15m. The central standing stone is granite reaching 1.6m in height.
