St Ninian’s Point
Standing Stones
NS 037 618

On the A844 heading south to find a circle I had spotted on the OS map we were looking for a beach to walk the dogs that just happened to have a couple of standing stones on it. At a sharp bend there is a sign to Straad. Follow the lane to the houses and on to a space to park near the sea. Walk along the beach for about ˝ mile and the stones are just behind a stone wall in a field beside the shore.

They are about 1m and 1.2m tall and are thin and slender. Further along the beach is the ruin of St Ninian’s church and an information board says it was built on an ancient “pagan site”.
