When you arrive in
Tozeur the bus/louage station is quite a distance from hotels and it is
too hot to walk. Yellow taxis are cheap. (Avoid going to the Splendid
Hotel which sounds good value in the guidebooks – it has closed and is
now just a local bar.) We found the Residence Warda in the south of town to
be clean and good value and was also nearer to walk to the oasis.
Residence Warda There are thousands
of palm trees here spreading out from the oasis waterholes and springs.
The town is very peaceful and hassle free. The old town has narrow lanes,
interesting brickwork and very old doors and arches. Some of the old
traditional doors have three knockers, one each for men, women and
children which give a different sound enabling the resident to know who is
there.

Spring At the centre are a couple of wind and water sculpted hills which give a good view of the area.
Unfortunately what seems like too many expensive hotels are being
developed in the area which are making demands on the water supply and
palms are beginning to die.
