Take the A5 from Betws-y-Coed
towards Llangollen and after about 2 miles, just past the right turn at
Conwy Falls and the restaurant, take the left turn up a narrow lane. It
rises steeply and after ¼ mile comes to a gate next to a campsite
entrance. Go through the gate and a second further on uphill. Look for a
footpath sign and stile on the left just before the farm buildings and
park. There is room for one car here. Follow the footpath signs for about
¼ mile until the chamber comes into view after you go through a small
metal gate.
View of the chambers Capel Garmon burial chamber was sited in a location with a beautiful view of Snowdonia. The apparent entrance faces west towards the mountains but this “entrance” was made in the 19th century when the tomb was used as a stable. The original entrance was on the southern side where a passage leads to the chambers on either side of the end giving the structure a “T” shape form. This side entrance is unusual in long mounds. Only one large capstone survives measuring around 14 feet (4.3 metres) in length. The site has been extensively restored.
