Stone Circle
Circle 275

SH 725 747

Walking downhill and crossing a small stream about 250m on you come to a Five Stone circle. This is 13ft (4m) in diameter. The central pit contained a dense mass of quartz fragments and dates to 1300-1000BC.

Five Stone Circle with Druid's Circle on the skyline

Continue walking eastwards to a red roofed cottage. Turn right through the gate and follow the path alongside the farm. A large “erratic” (glacial) boulder can be seen in the field here. Two more stone circles near here were destroyed by wall builders.

Continue along this track heading downhill heading for the round hill ahead.

When you reach the two pillars marking the start of the Jubilee Path turn downhill and follow the tarmac lane down into town. When you reach a small crossroads go straight on down the pedestrian only path towards the Hotel.

A shorter walk
Turn right at the Mountain View Hotel and drive up the lane for about half a mile. Turn right by a church and follow this to a small crossroads. Turn left into Mountain Lane and follow this up to the Jubilee Path starting point by the pillars. Park here.

Follow the path to the right uphill (not the Jubilee Path) and after about a mile the Five Stone circle comes into view. On the skyline you can see Druid’s Circle. See notes above for the route in reverse.
