Stone Circle
Druid's Temple
SD 293 739

Take the B5087 south from Ulverston towards Bardsea. After about 3 miles the road goes near the coast. When some trees come into view on the right take a right turn up a lane that leads to Birkrigg Common. Drive uphill for about ¼ mile and watch for a grassy track through the bracken on the right where the grass verge widens and there is room to park. The circle is found about 150 metres to the NE along the grass track.

Druid's Temple showing outer ring

This is a small double concentric ring of stones set in an attractive location overlooking the sands and Morecombe Bay in the distance. The stones are almost white limestone. The outer ring is of about 20 small and low stones almost hidden in places by the bracken and is about 85 feet across with the inner ring at about 27 feet with taller stones. The tallest is about 4 feet high. This taller stone stands in the southwest of the circle in line with the midwinter sunset, the photos show this stone in a late December sunset.
