From Exit 40 on the M6
head for the A6 towards Shap. Go down this for about ½ mile and signs
will direct you to the henge. King Arthur’s Round Table Henge is first
on the left with Mayburgh further down on the right.
Mayburgh Henge entrance All that remains of
this circle of, once four stones in the centre of the henge, is one 9 feet
(2.7 metres) tall pillar of volcanic ash. The henge is huge, measuring 383
feet (117 metres) with a 15 feet (4.5 metres) high bank surrounding it.
There is an entrance to the east. The centre is slightly dished where soil
was removed to make the foundations for the bank which was piled with
river cobbles. These stones are visible in places around the henge.
