Old Sarum
Hillfort

Take the A345 from Amesbury towards Salisbury and after about 6 miles there will be a sign to Old Sarum on the right.

This is an impressive site that was originally a Neolithic settlement and later developed into an Iron Age hillfort, then later into a medieval castle with it’s own cathedral only to be abandoned when nearby Salisbury was developed.

Over the centuries the original mound and ditch was enlarged to leave what can be seen today.

There is a £2 entry charge but dogs are allowed in.
