Powys

The sites in Powys seem, on the whole, to be little visited and many of the footpaths are overgrown, and in one case, obstructed. The sites are generally quite remote, often requiring long, but pleasant walks.  Some are not easy to find, we couldn’t find the small stones of the Six Stones circle in the dense heather but managed to visit all the others over a period of a week. Several sites are characterised by there being a pair of circles such as the Cerrig Gerrau/Lled Croen Yr Ych, Trecastle Mountain and Nant Tarw circles.

Most of the circles are made up of small stones except for the Four Stones site and the huge standing stone at Cerrig Duon circle. The one common characteristic is the beautiful and quiet environment. We ended the week with a visit to Ynys Hir, the site on MoD land.
