Fernworthy
Stone Circle and rows
SX 655 641

Drive to Fernworthy reservoir and ignore the main car park and continue on the tarmac road to the end where there is a small parking area. Take the path WNW that is signed “Footpath and bridleway to the moor” and go uphill, ignoring the right turn and you will come to the circle in a clearing on the right. Strangely enough the information board at the main car park makes no mention of the circles here.

The circle is set in trees and the routes to the features of the site have been cleared by the forestry commission. A sort stone avenue leads to the circle with a small cairn at the end. The circle is quite attractive and in good condition with 27 granite stones reaching up to 4ft (1.2m) in height forming a circle 65ft (almost 20m) across. To the south and east are cairns, the eastern one is in a gap in the trees but only has 3 or 4 stones of the circle remaining around it.

To the north of the circle a double row of low stones leads 100m into the trees ending at a small mound.
