Hartor North Stone circle and rows SX 577 717 We left this site until near the end of our trip as we were camping in Princetown and it is only about 1.5 miles away. However our last day was another heavy fog but it didn’t lift for ages. There is a small layby on the left coming from Princetown just after coming over a rise when the trees ahead come into view. It is before a small parking area on the right. From this layby there will be Black Tor to the east (left) and Leedon Tor to the west (right). There is a grassy path heading east and when it starts downhill turn to the left and follow a path around the back of Black Tor.
The waterfall on the way to the site When you can see a small waterfall ahead in the small valley look beyond and above it to see the stones of the row and circle in the distance on the other side of the stream.
The avenue leading to the circle |

The stone avenue leads up from the stream to the circle and is about 140m long. Many of the stones are a good size but many are deep in peat.
The circle is quite attractive in a very pleasant setting and has 14 stones, the tallest about 1m high. It is quite a small circle, about 30ft (9m) diameter and beside it is a cairn with a single row leading from it to the south. Both row and avenue are cut through by a stream.
