Spinster’s Rock
Burial Chamber
SX 702 908
Take the A382 at a roundabout off the A30 heading towards Exeter and follow this road for a couple of miles to a crossroad signed left to Spinster’s Rock. It is a narrow lane. (The right turn here will take you to Batworthy where there are two interesting sites) There is a small layby beside a farm and a gate providing access to the chamber.

A very heavy capstone is held on three uprights about 7ft (2.1m) high. A sign says that the chamber fell down in 1862 and was re-erected the same year and that “traditionally the monument is so named as it was erected by three spinsters one morning before breakfast.”
